Gujranwala: Ahead of the Basant festival 2026, police across Punjab have taken action against illegal kite trading, seizing thousands of unregistered kites and chemical strings, and arresting several suspects.
In Gujranwala, authorities uncovered an interprovincial network allegedly selling unregistered kites online. During a check of a bus, police recovered 20,000 kites, 1,800 rolls of chemical string, and related materials. Eight suspects were arrested, and separate cases have been registered against them. Police said the suspects were reportedly taking online orders and delivering consignments across Punjab.

In Gujrat, police arrested five suspects involved in the illegal sale of kites and strings, also recovering festival-related materials. Four suspects were arrested by Civil Lines police under SHO Inspector Furqan Shahzad Cheema, while one was taken into custody by Sara-i-Alamgir police. Officials said the district police are continuing efforts to track down others involved in the trade.
In Okara, police arrested two kite sellers in separate raids. Shahid Nadeem was caught with 175 kites, 20 rolls of string, and cash from sales, while another suspect, Ali, was arrested with 25 kites. Cases were registered under the Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance.
Police have emphasized that these actions are part of the ongoing effort to enforce the ban on illegal kite trading and ensure public safety during Basant.
