Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a large-scale Rawal Dam Cleanliness Drive to be held on October 15, aimed at restoring the lake’s natural beauty and raising public awareness about environmental protection.
The initiative, launched on the directives of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, will involve the active participation of citizens, students, and members of civil society. The authority has urged people from all walks of life to take part in the one-day campaign to promote collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
“The CDA is expanding this campaign to engage students and volunteers so that it becomes a community-wide effort,” Chairman Randhawa said in a statement, encouraging broad public participation in the drive.

As part of the preparations, the Solid Waste Management Directorate has already begun removing garbage and waste from the dam’s surroundings. According to a CDA spokesperson, the campaign’s objective goes beyond cleaning; it also aims to instill civic responsibility and environmental consciousness among Islamabad’s residents.
“Our goal is to create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for the citizens of Islamabad,” the spokesperson said, adding that strict action has been initiated against individuals, restaurants, housing societies, and commercial establishments found littering near the dam in violation of sanitation laws.
Chairman Randhawa noted that Rawal Dam, a key water source for the capital, must be protected from pollution and encroachment. He said the cleanup drive would serve as a community-based initiative to safeguard aquatic life and preserve the city’s natural ecosystem.
The CDA has also announced plans to hold similar public engagement campaigns in other areas of Islamabad to promote long-term environmental sustainability and civic responsibility.
