Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board on Wednesday approved a comprehensive plan to upgrade emergency services in Islamabad, including the establishment of new rescue stations, enhanced training, and provision of modern equipment.
The 15th meeting of the CDA Board, chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, decided that 12 new rescue stations will be set up across the capital to ensure faster response in emergencies. A dedicated motorbike rescue service, comprising around 50 motorcycles, will also be launched to strengthen rapid response capability.
The Board approved the recruitment process to fill vacant positions and provide professional training for emergency staff. It was also agreed to seek technical support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for vetting rescue equipment.

To improve coordination and monitoring, the CDA will establish a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Plans also include procurement of modern rescue vehicles, water rescue vans, and advanced equipment for handling emergencies.
In addition, the Board approved finalisation of Capital Emergency Service Regulations to institutionalise the upgraded system. Chairman Randhawa directed that all available resources be used to equip the service with modern facilities to ensure better safety for citizens.
The meeting also approved hiring a consultant to pursue carbon credit acquisition for CDA projects, recognising efforts in forest conservation, afforestation, and pollution reduction. It was decided that steps in line with international conventions will be initiated once the consultant is appointed.
Other decisions included engaging consultants for the design and planning of the first phase of Jinnah Medical Complex, as well as allocating land for a new teaching hospital in Islamabad.
