Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan to provide cheaper electricity to low-income neighbourhoods and industrial areas in Karachi, amid rising concerns over power outages and affordability.
The instructions were issued during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House with senior officials and representatives of K-Electric, including Chairman Shehryar Chishti and CEO Syed Taha.
During the meeting, the chief minister emphasised the need to reduce load shedding in underprivileged areas, particularly with the onset of summer. He noted that prolonged power outages have added to the difficulties faced by lower-income households and called for immediate, workable solutions.

Murad Ali Shah also directed officials to develop proposals for a targeted subsidy programme aimed at providing relief to deserving electricity consumers. He instructed that a detailed study be conducted to assess the feasibility of such a subsidy and identify beneficiaries.
The proposed measures are expected to cover both residential consumers in low-income areas and industrial zones, with the aim of improving power affordability and supporting economic activity.
Officials said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s focus on easing the burden on vulnerable communities while addressing infrastructure and service delivery challenges in the city’s power sector.
