The Punjab government has officially launched the registration process for its much-anticipated Electric Taxi (E-Taxi) Program — a flagship initiative under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Green & Clean Transport vision.
This pilot project, introduced through a collaboration between the Transport and Mass Transit Department and the Bank of Punjab, is initially being implemented in Lahore. It aims to introduce cost-effective, safe, and eco-friendly electric taxis to the city’s transportation network, replacing conventional fuel-based vehicles with sustainable alternatives.

As part of this rollout, the Transport and Mass Transit Department has invited Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), authorized local dealers, distributors, and joint ventures to register their electric car models for evaluation. Only vehicles that meet the required safety, operational, and performance standards will be approved for use in the E-Taxi program.
Interested parties are required to submit their applications along with relevant documentation to the department’s office at 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore. The deadline for submissions is 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
To facilitate participation, a pre-submission clarification meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the committee room of the Transport Department. Details and outcomes of the meeting will also be shared on the department’s official website for wider accessibility.

Under the scheme, the government will offer a robust financial support package to buyers. This includes equity payment assistance, a bank-financed loan spread over five years, and partial coverage of registration charges. Buyers will be able to choose from a government-approved list of electric vehicles. Financing of up to PKR 6.5 million per vehicle will be available, with any excess cost to be borne by the buyer.
This initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility and economic uplift for daily-wage drivers. By reducing carbon emissions and fuel dependency, the E-Taxi program is expected to create a cleaner, greener Lahore while offering modernized and dignified employment opportunities in the transport sector.
