Faisalabad: The draft of the Faisalabad Master Plan is set for a detailed assessment to ensure it meets environmental standards and addresses concerns raised by the courts, officials confirmed on Monday. The evaluation aims to align the city’s future development with sustainable and organized urban growth.
Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar reviewed the draft, emphasizing that the master plan is a key tool for guiding Faisalabad’s socioeconomic development on modern lines. He highlighted the importance of proactive planning to accommodate a growing population, meet civic needs, and curb unplanned urban expansion.
The review focused on critical aspects of the plan, including land-use zoning, industrial, agricultural, educational, social, and urban development requirements. The commissioner directed the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) to expedite departmental steps for final clearance while ensuring all judicial and environmental concerns are addressed.
Director General FDA Asif Chaudhry briefed the meeting on the technical details, background studies, and current status of the plan. He assured that measures are being taken to resolve issues raised by the court and to make the plan acceptable to all stakeholders.
Officials from the FDA and other relevant departments, including Additional Commissioner Asif Chohan, Additional Director General Qaiser Abbas Rind, and Chief Engineer Mehar Ayub, participated in the meeting. They reviewed the draft in detail and discussed steps to ensure the plan meets both environmental requirements and long-term development goals.
Faisalabad, Pakistan’s third-largest city and Punjab’s second-largest, has been a priority for the provincial government. Authorities say the master plan will provide a structured framework for the city’s growth, supporting sustainable industrial, residential, and social development while integrating environmental safeguards.
The assessment and subsequent adjustments to the master plan are expected to help Faisalabad grow in a planned and organized manner, balancing urban expansion with ecological and civic considerations.
