Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday announced that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025 has been extended by 15 days, moving the due date from September 30 to October 15.
In a statement issued at midnight, the tax authority said the decision had been taken under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. It added that the extension was granted in response to repeated requests from trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the general public.
The announcement came a day after the FBR had categorically rejected speculation about any extension. On Monday, the authority had termed such reports “false, baseless, and misleading,” insisting that the original September 30 deadline would remain unchanged.

The FBR also dismissed claims of technical glitches in its IRIS filing system, stating that the platform was “fully operational and functioning smoothly.” It further noted that most taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and had adequate time to fulfill their legal obligation.
The authority has cautioned that taxpayers who fail to submit their returns by the new deadline will face late-filer status and penalties as prescribed under the law.
