Karachi: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend statutory deadlines for filing income tax and sales tax returns, citing persistent technical glitches and connectivity disruptions that have hampered taxpayers nationwide.
In a letter to the FBR chairperson, KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani requested that the last date for filing income tax returns for tax year 2025 be extended from September 30 to October 31. He also sought a one-month extension for the submission of sales tax returns for August 2025, stressing that such relief was necessary under the prevailing circumstances.

Bilwani pointed out that the Iris portal continues to experience slowdowns and system errors, particularly during peak hours, making it difficult for taxpayers to submit returns efficiently. He added that recent flash floods and heavy monsoon rains had further disrupted internet and telecom services, worsening the situation for filers who rely solely on online platforms.
The KCCI chief reminded the FBR that similar extensions had been granted in the past under comparable conditions. He argued that providing relief now would not only encourage compliance but also support economic documentation and strengthen revenue collection.
Bilwani expressed confidence that the FBR would take a decision in the best interest of both taxpayers and the national exchequer.
