Karachi: The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, on Thursday directed tax and customs officials in Karachi to expedite the resolution of business-related complaints and ensure smooth processing of tax refunds.
The directives came during his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), where representatives briefed him on key issues affecting local enterprises. Business leaders raised concerns regarding delays in tax refund processing, complications with super tax installment payments, and other procedural bottlenecks that have impacted liquidity and daily operations.

Responding to the concerns, the FBR chief instructed the Chief Commissioner of the Large Taxpayer Office (LTO) Karachi and the Chief Collector Customs Appraisement (South) to prioritize and accelerate the resolution of these issues. He also assigned Inland Revenue Service and Customs officials to conduct a comprehensive review of existing processes to prevent future delays.
Langrial assured the business community that all legitimate tax refund claims would be processed efficiently, provided they comply with due process and regulatory requirements. He emphasized that tax collection would continue strictly in accordance with the law.
Highlighting the authority’s stance on integrity, the FBR chairman reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy on corruption, warning that any official found creating unnecessary hurdles or engaging in misconduct would face strict disciplinary action. He further encouraged business representatives to report instances of corruption within the tax system, supported by credible evidence, to enable prompt action.
