Lahore: The Punjab government has issued directions for the release of PKR 200 million for the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project in response to court orders to this effect, a news source reported.
According to sources, Chairman Planning & Development Board Habib-ur-Rehman Gillani sent an advice to Secretary Finance detailing the funds requirement.
The letter explained that the main project of Lahore OLMT was worth PKR 165 million. Meanwhile, PKR 20 billion were separately dedicated for purchase of land, and PKR 2.4 billion were dedicated for allied works and support services.
However, with the passage of time, the cost of project rose.
The roads beside the OLMT tracks faced damage due the project and needed patchwork repairs. The Planning & Development Board has approved PKR 3 billion for the project. However, the contractors who finished the work were not made the payment. These contractors had then brought the case to the court.
So currently, PKR 200 million under the category of ‘Patchwork (construction of roads/drainage) Along Orange Line’ need to be released for the payments to the concerned contractors.
