Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the federal government will bear the entire cost of a 100MW solar power supply project for Gilgit-Baltistan, according to an official statement issued after a meeting he chaired on Tuesday.
During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on ongoing and planned solar energy initiatives aimed at improving electricity supply in the region.

The briefing noted that a separate 18MW solar project, designed to provide power to government buildings in the Gilgit and Diamer divisions, is also underway and is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Authorities said the projects are part of broader efforts to enhance renewable energy generation and address electricity shortages in Gilgit-Baltistan through sustainable sources.
