Islamabad: The federal government has given formal approval for the printing of newly designed currency notes following a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Fresh designs will be introduced for the PKR 100, PKR 500, PKR 1,000, and PKR 5,000 denominations.
The new banknotes are being developed in line with modern international standards, with global experts involved in the design process to ensure both security and aesthetic appeal.
The redesigned notes will feature enhanced security threads to protect against counterfeiting. The artwork will reflect Pakistan’s regional and geographical diversity, highlight historical landmarks, and also showcase themes such as women’s contributions to national development and awareness about climate change.

To ensure a thorough review before the notes are rolled out, the cabinet approved the formation of a special committee to examine the proposed designs and make final recommendations.
The new currency notes are expected to strengthen security, promote cultural representation, and modernize Pakistan’s banknotes, while reflecting the country’s diversity and heritage. With these updated designs, the government aims to make currency more secure and visually representative of Pakistan’s rich history, environment, and social contributions
