Islamabad: Owing to financial constraints, the government has shelved the construction of Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6), a news source reported. China State Construction Engineering Corporation was the chief contractor.
The project was expected be completed at a cost of PKR 175 billion in three years on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. The federal government was to fund a certain portion of the project.
However, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has asked the departments concerned to prepare a feasibility report without any element of government funding.
The project had already missed its deadline which led to the escalation in its overall cost. M-6 was supposed to connect CPEC’s eastern route with Karachi.
