Gwadar: The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and South Air have agreed to formalise a partnership aimed at promoting Gwadar as a leading coastal tourism destination and improving air connectivity to the port city.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between GPA Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, Member of the National Assembly and National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs member Romina Khurshid Alam, and South Air Chief Operating Officer Ejaz Mahmood Malik.
The meeting discussed measures to promote coastal tourism in Gwadar and strengthen air links to support the city’s growing tourism sector.
Under the proposed partnership, the GPA and South Air will jointly promote Gwadar’s coastline, natural attractions, cultural heritage and tourism opportunities through coordinated campaigns targeting domestic and international tourists and investors.
Mr Baloch said the initiative reflected the vision of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry to develop Gwadar not only as a strategic maritime gateway but also as a centre for tourism, investment and sustainable economic growth.
He said improved air connectivity was essential to increasing tourist arrivals, facilitating business travel and improving accessibility to the port city. He added that better connectivity could create new opportunities for the hospitality, transport and tourism sectors.
The meeting also reviewed an earlier proposal discussed between the GPA chairman and South Air Station Manager Muhammad Saleem regarding the expansion of air services to support tourism development and capitalise on Gwadar’s coastal attractions.
The participants expressed optimism that greater collaboration between public institutions and the private sector would help promote Gwadar as a major coastal tourism destination and create opportunities for investment, employment and economic development.
