Rawalpindi: The pilot programme of the Green Youth Ambassadors initiative is set to be launched in Rawalpindi and Murree districts to equip students with environmental literacy and practical skills for sustainable development, officials said on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by Engineer Aamir Khattak during a meeting at the Municipal Corporation Office. He said the initiative aims to raise awareness among students about environmental protection, sustainable development, and green initiatives while engaging them in constructive and positive activities.
Khattak added that the programme is a flagship component of the Punjab chief minister’s “Plant for Pakistan” drive, designed to enable young people to play an active role in environment-friendly initiatives.
During the meeting, the Chief Conservator of Forests outlined that the pilot project would provide students with hands-on training in forestry, environmental management, and conservation. The training is intended to prepare the younger generation to address emerging environmental challenges effectively.

The Forest Department also sought funding for the initiative. Commissioner Khattak directed the Additional Commissioner (Coordination) to forward the proposal to ensure the necessary resources are arranged for successful implementation.
