Rawalpindi: Following a Punjab government ordinance, the Murree city traffic police have begun implementing increased fines for traffic violations across the city, officials said on Thursday.
A spokesperson for the traffic police urged road users to adhere to traffic rules to ensure safety and avoid heavy penalties.
Under the new rules, fines have been significantly raised for various violations:
- Traffic signal violations: Motorcycles Rs2,000, cars Rs5,000, commercial vehicles Rs15,000
- Negligent or careless driving: Motorcycles Rs3,000, cars Rs5,000
- Driving without a licence: Motorcycles Rs2,000, cars Rs5,000, commercial vehicles Rs15,000
- Excessive smoke emissions: Motorcycles Rs2,000, three-wheelers/cars Rs3,000, commercial vehicles Rs15,000
- Lane violations: Motorcycles Rs2,000, three-wheelers/cars Rs3,000, commercial vehicles Rs15,000
- Riding more than two persons on motorcycles: Rs2,000
- Using mobile phones while driving: Motorcycles Rs2,000, three-wheelers/cars Rs3,000
- Operating commercial vehicles without fitness certificate/road permit: Rs15,000
- Underage drivers: Motorcycles Rs2,000, three-wheelers Rs3,000, cars Rs5,000

The spokesperson added that a point system has also been introduced for driving licences under the new ordinance, aimed at promoting road safety and reducing violations.
Authorities stressed that the measures are part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance traffic discipline, protect road users, and ensure safer roads in Murree.
