Islamabad: The federal government has announced plans to construct two new underpasses and establish four emergency service centres in Islamabad as part of efforts to improve the capital’s infrastructure and public services.
The decisions were made during a high-level meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to review the progress of ongoing development projects.
The minister directed authorities to begin construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and the Faisal Mosque Underpass next month to help ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.
Mr Naqvi also ordered the early establishment of a fully functional Emergency 1122 system in Islamabad, describing the absence of an effective emergency response service in the capital as unacceptable. He instructed officials to complete the required legal formalities so work on four new emergency service centres could begin without delay.
The meeting also reviewed proposals to strengthen the CDA’s long-term financial sustainability through permanent revenue-generating measures. The interior minister directed officials to expedite initiatives aimed at improving the authority’s financial self-reliance.
In addition, he instructed the CDA to complete the Islamabad Expressway Service Road Project within the approved timeline and emphasised the timely execution of all ongoing development schemes. Officials also briefed the meeting on the progress of other major infrastructure projects and future development plans for the federal capital.
