Karachi: The Sindh government has announced that Karachi will soon see the arrival of double-decker and electric buses, aiming to modernize the city’s public transport system. The buses are expected to hit the roads starting next week.
The announcement came during a key meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and Project Director of the Yellow Line BRT Zameer Abbasi.

Officials briefed participants on the progress of the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects, the upcoming launch of the EV taxi service, and the second phase of the Pink electric scooter scheme. Memon confirmed that new routes for the People’s Bus Service in other districts of Sindh are also being prepared.
The Sindh government plans to launch the EV taxi service by December and add an additional 500 buses during the current financial year. These developments are part of broader efforts to improve public transportation, reduce congestion, and introduce eco-friendly options for commuters in Karachi.
