Peshawar: The Muhammad Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has formally inaugurated the Livestock Management Information System (LMIS), a digital platform aimed at modernising the province’s livestock sector.
According to a statement issued by the CM Secretariat on Saturday, the initiative recognises the livestock sector as the backbone of the rural economy and seeks to strengthen it through digital integration and improved service delivery.
Under the LMIS, a comprehensive digital database will be developed, featuring geo-tagged farms and livestock across the province. The system will maintain detailed records based on animal breed and age, while digital codes will be used to monitor the purchase and distribution of medicines and vaccines.

A real-time surveillance mechanism will also be activated to enable quick identification of animals and prompt reporting of disease outbreaks. Officials said the system is designed to improve response time and enhance disease control measures.
To facilitate farmers, the LMIS includes the establishment of a toll-free livestock helpline, offering direct access to expert guidance and support services. The platform will centralise digital monitoring of vaccination, treatment, and breeding services, linking farmers with veterinary hospitals, mobile clinics, and field staff through a unified system.
By connecting all service delivery to a central digital hub, the provincial government aims to create a seamless and efficient ecosystem for the livestock industry.
The statement said the LMIS is expected to promote transparency, accountability, and improved coordination across the sector, marking a new phase of reforms in livestock management in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
