Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Monday approved filing a petition in the Supreme Court against the federal government’s decision to impose tax on the transfer of immovable property, arguing that the measure infringes upon the provincial government’s exclusive authority.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, observed that taxation on property transfers falls under the provincial domain, as outlined in the Constitution. Officials said the province will contest the federal government’s jurisdiction over the matter in court.

The cabinet maintained that the federal move not only encroaches on provincial rights but also risks creating complications for citizens and property markets. It decided to pursue legal remedies to safeguard the province’s fiscal powers.
This marks the latest in a series of steps by the KP government to assert greater control over its taxation and revenue generation mechanisms.
