Lahore Zoo is set to introduce night-time visits from February, with plans to offer illuminated exhibits, live entertainment and upgraded food services to attract families and tourists.
Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department Director General Mobeen Elahi said the “night zoo” concept will initially be rolled out on a limited scale, with only selected sections remaining open after dark. These include the lion enclosures, Reptile House, fish aquarium and the Hologram Zoo.
To enhance the visitor experience, ambience lighting will be installed around the zoo’s food court, lake, hill area and large trees, creating a themed night-time environment. Children’s puppet shows are planned for evening hours, while live music performances will be organised on weekends.

The food court is also being redesigned and will later be outsourced through a tendering process, with bids from local vendors currently under review. Officials said the night zoo will generally remain open until 9pm, while weekend visits may carry higher ticket prices due to added entertainment.
Addressing concerns related to animal welfare, Mr Elahi said only zones housing nocturnal species will be opened at night to minimise stress caused by lighting and noise. He added that the regular entry fee will remain Rs100 per person for daytime visits, while pricing for night-time access, particularly on weekends, is still being finalised. Separate charges will continue to apply for facilities such as the aquarium, reptile house and hologram zoo.
Officials said the initiative is inspired by international models, including Singapore Zoo, and aims to provide visitors with more flexible visiting hours while aligning Lahore Zoo with global tourism and leisure trends.
