Lahore: The Punjab government has launched two significant initiatives aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and addressing urban congestion in Lahore.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the Transport Department to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a Transport Tower in Lahore. The proposed tower is set to centralize all provincial transport-related departments into a single, unified location. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan has been assigned to oversee the project, which aims to house key offices, including the Regional Transport Authority, Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and Railway Transportation System. Additionally, the tower will feature a provincial-level command and control center to monitor and coordinate transport operations across the province.

While the location and design of the tower have yet to be finalized, the Transport Department is currently working on identifying a suitable site and developing architectural plans. Once the feasibility study and design proposal are completed, the project will be submitted to the Chief Minister for further approval.
In another development aimed at tackling urban congestion, the Punjab government has moved to address the parking crisis in central Lahore. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting to review the worsening parking issues, instructing authorities to begin immediate work on parking plazas at the most affected sites. A comprehensive plan has been proposed to construct parking plazas at 13 key locations in central Lahore, including Regal Chowk, Town Hall, Circular Road, and other busy commercial zones that face chronic parking shortages.

These new parking facilities are part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion in Lahore. Once completed, the parking plazas are expected to alleviate traffic woes, improve access to high-density areas, and support local businesses. Further planning and implementation details will be finalized in coordination with city authorities and urban development bodies.
Both initiatives reflect the Punjab government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and addressing key urban challenges in Lahore.
