Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an immediate and comprehensive crackdown on illegal constructions and unauthorized housing societies across the federal capital. The move marks a decisive step to curb unregulated urban sprawl and restore planning discipline in Islamabad.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the interior minister, with attendance from key officials, including the Chief Commissioner, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner, senior police officers, and assistant commissioners. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and the Federal Secretary of Interior also participated.

Emphasizing a strict “zero-tolerance policy”, Naqvi directed all field officers to launch operations without delay. “Immediate operation against illegal constructions in Islamabad has been decided,” he stated, calling for swift action against both unapproved housing societies and individual unauthorized structures.
The decision comes amid a surge in illegal construction activities driven by rapid population growth, increased housing demand, and lapses in enforcement. Officials acknowledged that previous shortcomings in regulation had allowed illegal developments to proliferate, often exploited by land mafias and unregistered developers.
To address this challenge, the minister ordered the use of satellite mapping through the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) to monitor and prevent illegal construction. “All kinds of illegal constructions should be prevented through advanced satellite surveillance,” Naqvi stressed.
Beyond enforcement, the interior minister also called for improved citizen services and greater accountability. “Providing world-class services to the citizens of Islamabad should be your top priority,” he said, urging officials to work with national spirit and full commitment.

Naqvi also directed officers to take measures for effective price control of essential items and to restore public trust in the police and local administration. “The image of the police and administration in Islamabad must improve, and that can only happen when citizens see results and trust your leadership,” he added. The sweeping operation is expected to begin immediately, with further developments to be closely monitored by the ministry.
