Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue has approved a proposal to make the filing of income tax returns exclusively electronic, marking a further step toward the digitisation of Pakistan’s tax system.
Under the approved measure, taxpayers will be required to submit their income tax returns only through the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online IRIS system. The move is aimed at eliminating manual filing channels and shifting all return submissions to digital platforms.
Officials from the FBR informed the committee that the tax administration has been progressively transitioning toward digital systems since 2013. However, they noted that manual returns were still being submitted from certain areas, indicating incomplete compliance with the digital framework.
