Kuala Lumpur: Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday signed six accords to deepen cooperation across diverse fields including education, halal certification, tourism, anti-corruption efforts, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The agreements were exchanged at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of his counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Both leaders witnessed the signing ceremony after holding bilateral talks.
Among the accords was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy and Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations to promote training and knowledge exchange for diplomats.
In higher education, an MoU was signed to foster collaboration between academic institutions of the two countries. Another accord focused on cooperation in the tourism sector, while a separate agreement was reached on halal certification, aimed at enhancing trade in halal products.

Both sides also signed an MoU to expand collaboration in preventing and combating corruption, with documents exchanged between Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission.
The sixth MoU focused on promoting entrepreneurship, linking Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) with Malaysia’s SME Corporation to strengthen SME ecosystems in both countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said the agreements reflect a shared resolve to broaden bilateral relations through joint ventures, trade facilitation, and institutional partnerships. He noted that Pakistan seeks to strengthen economic ties with Malaysia by leveraging areas of mutual interest.
Officials from both sides expressed confidence that the accords will not only boost government-to-government cooperation but also open up new avenues for private sector collaboration.
