Islamabad: Significant gas reserves have been discovered deep beneath the Arabian Sea during a joint survey conducted by the Pakistan Navy in collaboration with China, a senior former naval officer revealed on Monday.
Speaking on Pakistan Navy Day, observed annually on September 8, Rear Admiral (retd) Fawad Amin Baig said the survey confirmed the presence of substantial offshore deposits that could reshape the country’s energy landscape.
“The country’s waters are not only rich in minerals but also home to a treasure trove of marine resources that could transform our economic outlook if tapped wisely,” he noted, crediting the Navy for its central role in the exploration process.

He stressed the need for attracting investors and deploying modern technology to harness these resources effectively. At the same time, he warned that attempts to exploit such opportunities often face hurdles, including “fifth-generation warfare tactics” aimed at discouraging investment.
Baig expressed confidence that with the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and stronger coordination between military and political leadership, Pakistan is better positioned to advance both its defence and economic strategies in the years ahead.
