Islamabad: Pakistan has been selected among several nations to receive financial assistance under a new initiative by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), aimed at strengthening climate resilience and supporting sustainable development.
The programme, developed in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will provide funding to help countries address climate-related challenges, particularly those linked to melting glaciers, rising temperatures, and shifting weather patterns.

According to official sources, the initiative will focus on projects that promote sustainable water management, renewable energy adoption, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The financial support is expected to help Pakistan enhance its capacity to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, which continue to pose serious risks to its agriculture, water resources, and livelihoods.
The Green Climate Fund, established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), plays a central role in financing efforts by developing countries to transition toward low-emission and climate-resilient pathways.
Officials stated that the GCF’s assistance will complement Pakistan’s ongoing environmental projects and contribute to the country’s broader climate adaptation goals outlined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
