Karachi: The Sindh Forest Department broke its own Guinness World Record of planting the most tree saplings in 24 hours by sowing over 1.1 million mangroves on an island near Keti Bunder, according to a news source. The campaign was launched by Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where both planted saplings.
Previously, the department set Guinness World Record by planting 847,275 trees in Kharo Chaan, Thatta, and broke it this time by planting over 1.1 million mangroves in the same region. According to the given guidelines, 300 planters achieved this task in daylight hours.
Shah highlighted how such attempts brought the coastal areas and their socio-economic development into the limelight. He also said how such drives in 2009 and 2013 had created awareness about the mangrove forests of Pakistan.
