Lahore: In a major boost to Punjab’s road infrastructure, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved nine major development schemes with a collective estimated cost of Rs13.675 billion.
The approval was granted during the 81st PDWP meeting for the fiscal year 2024–25, chaired by Planning & Development Board Chairman Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan. Senior officials, including Secretary P&D Dr. Asif Tufail and Chief Economist Masood Anwar, also attended the high-level session.
All nine schemes fall under the roads sector and are designed to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and support regional economic growth. These initiatives will span various districts and target both rehabilitation and dualization of critical routes.

Key projects include:
- Lahore-Jaranwala Road (Mandi Faizabad to Mangranwala): Dualization at a cost of over Rs1.163 billion.
- Sahiwal–Arifwala–Harappa Bypass: Rehabilitation and improvement via Malan Shah Chowk, with an allocation exceeding Rs1.094 billion.
- Farooqabad–Safdarabad (Sheikhupura-Sargodha Road): Upgrades worth Rs1.511 billion.
- Safdarabad–Manawala Road: Rehabilitation with Rs1.178 billion earmarked.
- Chiniot District Boundary to Tahli Adda via Sial More: Restoration project costing over Rs1.941 billion.
- Sahiwal–Shahpur Road (Sargodha): Widening and improvement at a projected Rs1.882 billion.
- Sangla Hill–Safdarabad Road (Nankana Sahib): Rehabilitation at over Rs1.22 billion.
- Tandlianwala to Kamalia via Zaffar Chowk and Mamukanjan: Rehabilitation costing Rs1.818 billion.
- Taxila–HMC Farooqia Road (Rawalpindi District): Dualization work estimated at Rs1.864 billion.

These infrastructure upgrades mark a significant step in the Punjab government’s continued efforts to modernize transportation networks and facilitate regional mobility.
