Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to declare Peshawar and New York City as sister cities, aiming to promote cooperation in cultural, trade, economic, educational, and governance sectors.
The decision was taken during the 46th meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. According to officials, the sister city agreement is intended to strengthen international engagement, encourage knowledge-sharing, and open avenues for collaboration between the two cities.

The cabinet noted that the initiative would help position Peshawar as a city open to global partnerships while fostering people-to-people links and institutional cooperation. Relevant departments have been directed to proceed with the formal process in line with the approved MoU.
Officials said further details regarding implementation and areas of cooperation would be finalised after coordination with stakeholders from both sides.
