Multan: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the electric bus service in Multan on Thursday, September 18, with 45 buses planned to operate on several routes in the first phase.
According to the details, the service will operate on routes connecting Vehari Chowk with Nishtar Hospital, Ghanta Ghar with Ibn-e-Sina Hospital, Dera Adda via DHA and Women University to the e-Khidmat Centre, and Chungi No. 9 to Nag Shah and NADRA Abad Phatak.
Additional services will connect Vehari Chowk with Qasim Bela and Ghanta Ghar with Qadirpur Raan. The provincial government has said that 160 electric buses will operate across different cities and areas of Multan Division during the first phase, while the total fleet for the division is planned to reach 205 buses.
CM Maryam also announced plans to expand electric bus services across Punjab, with the provincial government targeting 3,000 electric buses by June 2027. According to Radio Pakistan, 1,500 additional buses are planned for deployment across 91 tehsils from January 2027. The Multan launch forms part of Punjab’s broader programme to expand electric public transport services across the province.
