Sargodha: Work has officially begun on a PKR 14 billion mega sewerage project aimed at resolving the city’s decades-old drainage and sewage problems.
Commissioner Sargodha Division Jahanzeb Awan, along with Deputy Commissioner (retired Capt) Muhammad Waseem, visited three major sites on Tuesday — Sillanwali Road Disposal, Company Bagh, and Jinnah Colony — where officials briefed them on the scope and progress of the initiative.
The visit was attended by MD WASA Abu Bakr Umar, MD PHA Muhammad Arshad, Director Development Bilal Hassan and other relevant officers.
According to the briefing, the project is scheduled to be completed within 20 months. Under the plan, 600,000 feet (around 180 kilometres) of new sewerage pipelines will be laid across the city.

To conserve rainwater, three modern storage tanks will be built at Company Bagh, Block No. 31, and Rehmatul Alameen Park. These tanks — each with a capacity of 1 to 1.5 million gallons — will later supply water to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).
Officials said that of the 14 existing sewage disposals in the city, seven will be demolished and two new ones will be constructed, leaving a total of nine upgraded disposal stations. The project also includes the installation of modern pipelines ranging from 72 inches to 12 inches in diameter.
The city has been divided into two zones for phased execution of the work.
Commissioner Awan described the project as a “game changer” for Sargodha, saying it would provide a long-term, sustainable solution to chronic sewage issues. He said no compromise would be made on transparency or construction quality.
Deputy Commissioner Waseem added that the district administration was utilising all available resources to ensure timely completion of the project, with daily monitoring now under way.
