Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday launched the “PM Apna Ghar Programme”, a nationwide housing initiative aimed at facilitating affordable homeownership through subsidised financing.
Under the scheme, housing loans of up to PKR 10 million will be provided on easy instalments for the construction of residential units. The programme will be implemented across the federal capital, all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the launch ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister said the government aims to construct 500,000 housing units under the initiative, backed by a total allocation of PKR 3.2 trillion. He added that for the first year, the target has been set at financing 50,000 homes, with PKR 321 billion earmarked for this purpose.

The loans will be repayable over a period of 20 years. Borrowers will be charged a fixed markup of 5% during the first 10 years, after which the rate will shift to the prevailing market rate for the remaining tenure.
The scheme allows for the construction of housing units of up to 10 marla, targeting middle- and lower-income segments seeking access to formal housing finance.
PM Shehbaz said he would personally review the programme’s progress on a monthly basis to address bottlenecks and ensure timely disbursement of funds, stressing the government’s commitment to improving access to affordable housing across the country.
