Islamabad – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rains, wind, and thundershowers across the country from August 14, warning of possible flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides as monsoon activity intensifies.
According to the Met Office, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are already penetrating the upper parts of the country, while moist currents from the Bay of Bengal are expected to strengthen from August 17. A westerly wave is also likely to intensify, triggering heavy rainfall in several regions.

From August 14 to 17, Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive rain with scattered heavy falls. From August 18 to 21, the wet spell will expand, bringing heavy to very heavy rains to multiple areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Swat, Kohistan, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, DG Khan, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad, and parts of Balochistan.
The PMD has warned of flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, Dera Ghazi Khan, and eastern Balochistan. Urban flooding is feared in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Peshawar, and Nowshera, while landslides and road closures may occur in vulnerable hilly areas.

Authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and take preventive measures, while the public, especially travelers and tourists, has been urged to avoid unnecessary movement in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas during the forecast period.
