Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has said that the process of printing new-design currency notes is at an advanced stage and will begin once the federal cabinet grants its approval.
SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad stated this while addressing a press conference on Monday, adding that the central bank plans to print two to three denominations simultaneously in the initial phase. He said the redesigned banknotes would be introduced into circulation gradually, after the SBP builds a minimum required stock to replace the existing notes.

The governor did not disclose which denominations would be issued first. He confirmed that the new designs have already been shared with the government and forwarded to the cabinet for final approval.
The move is part of the central bank’s broader effort to modernise Pakistan’s currency notes in line with international standards.
