Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday announced that the provincial government is set to enact a new law to eliminate land grabbing, particularly targeting cases involving orphans, widows, and underprivileged citizens.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), the chief minister revealed that special courts will be established to fast-track land grabbing cases, with mandatory verdicts to be delivered within 90 days. The proposed law includes stringent punishments, with offenders facing up to 10 years in prison for illegal occupation.

“There will be no encroachment on the land of the weak and helpless in Punjab,” Maryam declared, pledging that the government would stand firmly by victims of injustice.
During the ceremony, she also administered the oath to newly-inducted PERA Force officials, urging them to serve with honesty, reject bribes, and uphold public trust. “PERA officials must become a living example of good governance,” she stressed.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted PERA’s broader mandate, which includes tackling inflation, hoarding, and encroachment. She lauded the Authority’s role in recent flood relief and rehabilitation efforts, noting their round-the-clock service in coordination with other departments.
