Rawalpindi: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed said on Thursday that the Quetta-Taftan-Zahedan rail track would be upgraded on a fast-track basis.
He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Hunar Dost. The meeting took place at the Railways Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The minister said that Pakistan Railways would benefit from the expertise of Iranian officials for developing rail links between the two countries.
In response, the Iranian ambassador invited Minister Rasheed to attend the inaugural ceremony of Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway route. He informed that the event will take place on March 6.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi called on the railways minister. Port Qasim Authority Chairman Asad Rafi Chandna, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Chairman Rizwan Ahmed, and member advisory council Ministry of Maritime Affairs Mahmood Maulvi were also present at the occasion.
The two sides agreed to expedite work for timely completion of the railway freight corridor project. The corridor was included in an agreement signed last week at the Karachi Port Trust.
