Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 to October 15. The news has been sourced from an article published on October 1.

According to the details, the extension was announced on September 30, following requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations. The original deadline was September 30. Tax professionals and business representatives had cited delays in the issuance of return forms and technical issues with the FBR’s IRIS portal as challenges affecting timely filing.

According to FBR data, 5.181 million tax returns had been filed by September 29, compared with 3.553 million during the same period for Tax Year 2025, reflecting a 45.8% increase. Under the Finance Act 2026-27, penalties for restoring a taxpayer’s status on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) have also been increased. The penalty is now PKR 100,000 for companies, PKR 50,000 for associations of persons, and PKR 25,000 for individuals.
