Rawalpindi The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Kinza Murtaza has ordered the relocation of major urban facilities, including wholesale markets, transport terminals, educational institutions, and industrial units, to designated zones along the Ring Road corridor. The decision was made as part of a broader plan to restructure the city and promote balanced urban growth.
The announcement came during a meeting chaired by RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza on Wednesday. The DG also approved the establishment of a new RDA Hospital on Jhanda Chichi Road, which is expected to provide modern and accessible healthcare, ease pressure on existing medical facilities, and ensure faster service delivery to residents.
Officials said shifting key facilities to the Ring Road corridor aims to reduce congestion, curb pollution, and relieve population pressure in densely built-up areas. Transport terminals will be relocated to the entry and exit points of the Ring Road on G.T. Road and the Motorway, while educational institutions will move to purpose-built campuses with enhanced infrastructure. Dedicated health zones will also be developed along the corridor, including hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centres, and laboratories.
DG Kinza Murtaza instructed the Engineering Directorate, Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering Directorate, Estate Management Directorate, and Land Development Directorate to identify suitable sites for the relocations. She emphasized that these measures are aligned with the federal government’s vision for a “Digital and Modern Islamabad,” aiming to improve service delivery and overall urban planning.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Director of Engineering Muhammad Anwar Baran, Director of Administration Iftikhar Ali, Director of Land Ghazanfar Ali Awan, Director of Estate Management Aabgeena, Director of Finance Dawood Khalid, and Director MP & TE Atif Mahmood Chaudhry.
The RDA said the relocations are part of ongoing efforts to streamline city operations, enhance accessibility, and promote sustainable urban development in Rawalpindi.
