Faisalabad: The Faisalabad divisional administration has announced a phased plan to relocate industrial units from the city to designated industrial zones in an effort to reduce pollution, improve urban living, and ensure long-term sustainable development.
Commissioner Faisalabad, Raja Jahangir Anwar, directed the formation of a District Industrial Relocation Committee to oversee the initiative. The committee will consult with stakeholders, conduct surveys, and develop a roadmap for shifting industries from residential areas to peri-urban or rural zones where state land is available.
Officials noted that previous urban and industrial plans, including the Structure Plan 1986, Greater Faisalabad Plan 1991, and FDA Master Plan 2021, had recommended relocating industries, but implementation had been limited. The new initiative aims to operationalize these recommendations while balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.

The relocation process will prioritize industries causing air and water pollution, heavy logistics traffic, or noise. The administration plans to support businesses through incentives, alternative land provision, soft loans, tax exemptions, and facilitation for obtaining necessary NOCs, ensuring minimal disruption to production, employment, and exports.
The committee includes representatives from the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), Punjab Small Industries Corporation, Labor Department, Environmental Protection Agency, Municipal Corporation Planning, FIEDMC, and local universities.
Commissioner Anwar emphasised that the initiative is voluntary and supportive, not punitive, aiming to protect public health while maintaining industrial growth. The phased rollout will begin in the next two to three months, with full implementation expected over a three- to five-year period.
