Islamabad: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP), in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has launched a new remote biometric verification system to simplify online passport applications across Pakistan.
Under the upgraded process, applicants can now confirm their fingerprints through the NADRA Pak-ID mobile app, eliminating the need for in-person biometric verification. The system also offers a facial recognition option for users who face difficulties during fingerprint scanning, making the process more accessible and user-friendly.

To begin the application, users must visit the online passport web portal. When they reach the fingerprint stage, they are required to log in to the Pak-ID app, navigate to the biometric verification section, select “Online Passport”, and enter their passport tracking ID along with their CNIC number.
The app then guides applicants through fingerprint scanning and, if needed, facial recognition. Once the biometric verification is completed, the system issues a confirmation message and directs the applicant back to the online portal, where they can finish the remaining steps and submit their passport application.
The new system is aimed at making the online passport process more convenient, especially for users who prefer remote services or cannot visit physical passport offices.
