Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved the construction of a new flyover on Azeempura Road to establish a signal-free corridor between Sharea Faisal and Shahrah-e-Bhutto, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving city connectivity.
The project, which spans approximately 500 metres, is expected to provide uninterrupted access for thousands of daily commuters, particularly those travelling to and from Jinnah International Airport. Designed to accommodate high traffic volumes, the flyover will serve as a key alternate route during ongoing development along Shahrah-e-Bhutto.

A high-level meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab finalized the PC-1 of the project on Sunday. The session was attended by KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Chief Engineer Zulfiqar Abro, Financial Adviser Gulzar Ali, and other senior KMC officials.
With a block allocation of PKR 1.4 billion, the flyover is part of KMC’s broader urban mobility and infrastructure improvement strategy. Officials noted that the initiative aims to deliver long-term traffic solutions while enhancing resilience in the city’s road network.
Following formal approval from the Planning and Development Board, construction work is expected to begin immediately, with the project scheduled for completion within one year. City authorities believe the flyover will significantly reduce travel times and improve road safety, offering a practical solution to Karachi’s increasing traffic demands.
