Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has confirmed that the long-delayed Rawalpindi Ring Road is expected to be completed by April this year. The project is designed to connect the M-2 motorway and the CPEC route to Margalla Avenue via the Thalian Interchange, officials said.
RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza shared the update during a New Year’s press briefing at the Rawalpindi Press Club, alongside Chief Engineer Anwar Baran and Director Planning Tahir Mayo. She said that approximately 78% of the construction work on the Ring Road has already been completed, and planning for Phase II of the corridor has begun.
The Ring Road is intended to alleviate traffic congestion in the city by diverting heavy vehicles and bulk trade away from Rawalpindi’s core areas. The corridor is planned to include a bus and truck terminal, as well as a wholesale vegetable and fruit market. Under the proposed traffic plan, large buses will not be allowed to go beyond T-Chowk.

Murtaza added that a national transport policy is being developed in coordination with other authorities to streamline both intercity and intra-city movement, with the Ring Road serving as a key backbone for future urban planning in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metropolitan area.
The DG also highlighted ongoing reforms by the RDA, including mandatory tree plantation for new housing projects, moving building and commercialisation files entirely online, and the introduction of green electric buses in the city. She further assured that individuals involved in the RDA financial scandal will be removed from service once the inquiry is complete, underscoring the authority’s commitment to transparency in flagship projects like the Ring Road.
