Karachi: Sugar mills on Monday were told to install effluent treatment plants ahead of the crushing season – a news source reported.
Justice (retired) Amir Hani Muslim, who heads the one-man commission, issued the directives. He warned the owners of the sugar mills against delaying the installation of treatment plants. He also ordered the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to seal any industrial units that violated orders.
The Supreme Court-mandated commission was informed that Seri Sugar Mill was non-operational. In response, Justice Muslim ordered the owner to make the mill functional only after the installation of a treatment plant. He said that non-compliance would result in the industrial unit’s closure.
