Lahore: Construction has officially started on Lahore’s first floating restaurant along the Lahore Canal, a project expected to become a major recreational and tourism attraction in the city. Authorities say the project is scheduled for completion by June of the current financial year.
To facilitate the initiative, the canal’s depth is being increased from 7 feet to 13 feet and its width expanded to 30 feet. The construction work is being carried out by HRD, with NESPAK appointed as the project consultant, while the Irrigation Department is overseeing technical aspects.

Officials from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) said the project will feature a three-storey, state-of-the-art floating restaurant capable of accommodating around 80 diners at a time. The design aims to combine premium dining with tourism, adding a new recreational element along the canal.
PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmed stated that the project is expected to enhance Lahore’s visual appeal and boost its tourism profile. The estimated cost of the floating restaurant project is approximately PKR 4.9 billion.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve Lahore’s public spaces and recreational facilities, creating new attractions for both residents and visitors.
