Peshawar: After nearly seven years of delay, construction has finally commenced on the long-awaited missing link of the Peshawar Ring Road — a vital 8.7-kilometre stretch that will connect Warsak Road to Nasir Bagh Road.
The project is being undertaken by the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, improve freight movement, and open new avenues for planned urban development in the provincial capital.
Approved as a non-ADP (Annual Development Programme) scheme by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on March 3, 2025, the project is being executed in multiple phases. Phase I — which includes the main carriageway, utility relocation, and essential infrastructure like bridges and underpasses — is estimated to cost Rs9.67 billion. Flyovers and service roads will be taken up in Phase II, projected at Rs9.65 billion, while Phase III, costing Rs1.879 billion, will include electrification and other supporting works.

To fast-track construction, Phase I has been divided into four work packages. The contract has already been awarded, and the contractor has mobilised personnel and heavy machinery on site. PDA Director General Naeem Khan confirmed that tenders were floated earlier this year and bids were opened on April 23, 2025.
The project is being fully funded by the provincial government, and authorities have been directed to ensure its completion within six months.
Once completed, the new link will provide an alternative route for commuters and heavy transport vehicles, diverting traffic away from congested city arteries and helping Peshawar grow in a more structured and sustainable manner.
Officials believe that the long-pending infrastructure upgrade will play a crucial role in unlocking new development zones and improving overall connectivity within the city.
