Rawalpindi: Construction of three additional underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Cheering Cross on Peshawar Road, costing PKR 7.20 billion, is set to begin either in the last week of this month or the first week of December, officials confirmed.
These underpasses are part of the ongoing PKR 14 billion infrastructure project at Kachehri Chowk, which includes three flyovers and three underpasses designed to create a signal-free corridor from Kachehri Chowk to Motorway Chowk. The corridor is expected to become operational by June or July next year.
Kachehri Chowk connects major roads, including Jinnah Park Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Iftikhar Janjua Road, Mall Road, and Jhelum Road. To address increasing traffic pressure, the project also includes road expansions alongside the underpasses and flyovers.

The C&W Department is executing the project, with FWO serving as the contractor. Officials noted that the underpasses at TM Chowk and GPO Chowk have already been completed, and tenders for the new underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Cheering Cross will be opened this week, with contracts awarded shortly thereafter.
The construction of the three new underpasses is planned to run concurrently with the ongoing Kachehri Chowk project, ensuring completion within the eight-month timeline, by June 2026. Work is being carried out round the clock to meet this target and significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
