The kite-flying festival, traditionally celebrated during Basant, was banned in Punjab in 2007 due to rising incidents of deaths and serious injuries caused by sharp strings, particularly affecting motorcyclists and pillion riders, as well as accidents linked to celebratory gunfire.
After 18 years, the Punjab government has now decided to lift the ban, allowing a three-dayBasant festival to take place in Lahore starting February 6, with strict safety regulations in place to protect participants and spectators.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the festivities responsibly, while authorities continue to emphasize safety and adherence to the new rules.
