Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated work on a 9-kilometre dual carriageway project along the Islamabad Expressway, marking the start of a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow on one of the city’s key arterial routes.
The project involves constructing a three-lane dual carriageway on each side in place of the existing service road, stretching from Faizabad to the Gulberg Green stop. Officials say the development is intended to replace the deteriorated service road infrastructure and enhance connectivity along the expressway corridor.
According to project details, the scheme has been launched under a government-to-government execution model, with construction expected to begin in the coming days following procedural formalities. The estimated cost of the project stands at around PKR 7.4 billion, though officials note that final costs may vary depending on the execution process.

Once completed, the dual carriageway is expected to significantly improve traffic movement along the expressway, which serves as a major link between Islamabad’s urban areas and surrounding highways.
The CDA is overseeing the project as the executing agency, with construction likely to be awarded to a government-linked contractor. Authorities have also indicated that the project timeline targets completion within approximately six months, subject to smooth progress on site conditions and clearances.
Work is set to begin with site preparation and right-of-way clearance along the alignment, as the authority moves forward with one of the latest additions to Islamabad’s road infrastructure network.
