Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board has approved, in principle, the establishment of three new civic agencies aimed at improving service delivery in the federal capital.
The decision was taken during a board meeting chaired by CDA Chairman retired Lt. Sohail Ashraf, where multiple policy and administrative matters were discussed and approved.
According to sources, the new bodies will include a Solid Waste Management Agency, Parks and Horticulture Agency Islamabad (PHAI), and an Islamabad Water Agency. These institutions will remain under the umbrella of the CDA but are expected to operate with greater administrative autonomy to improve efficiency in their respective areas.
Officials said the restructuring is intended to streamline municipal services and strengthen institutional focus on sanitation, urban greenery, and water management in Islamabad.

In addition to the new agencies, the board also approved the formation of a Project Management Unit (PMU) under the Environment Wing. The PMU will be responsible for executing development projects independently, without direct involvement of the CDA engineering wing.
The decision was made on a summary moved by Member Environment Abdullah Khurram Niazi and was approved by the board during the meeting.
Sources further indicated that efforts are underway to ensure the posting of experienced and credible engineering staff within the newly formed PMU to oversee project execution.
The reforms are part of broader efforts to improve governance, project delivery, and operational efficiency within the civic authority.
